Mixing up the seasons

Hope you all had a lovely Easter.  We were fortunate to have our daughter and future son-in-law join us for a sunny Easter weekend.  The weather was kind enough to allow for a walk after a big roast lunch and walk off those extra roast pototoes!   We had loved our Christmas day lunch so much that we decided not to wait the year round but re-create it on Easter sunday, as always using the brilliant Delia Christmas recipe book for the turkey and American stuffing.   Mixing up the seasons is something I love to do, I never fully put away all of the decorations, there's always something kept out from each of the four seasons, they just keep getting added to!

If like me, you love the rustic, country, primitive look then why not think about incorporating natural elements into your spring decorating.  Using wood, hessian, raffia and linen adds character and warmth.  I love scouring charity and antique shops for old rusty treaures like vintage cheese graters or wooden butter pats.

I love the colour palette of spring and my kitchen gets new gorgeous paper napkins, cloth napkins saved for best.  I change my teatowels for spring designs, light cream candles and bring out my wicker baskets.   Pop some fabric daffodils or tulips on the side, you can use a glass mason or kilner jar for example and tie a fabric bow around the vase.  My fabric flower bouquets come with a large homespun bow that you can recycle and use to decorate your jar at home.  I found the sweetest old enamel teapot to display my tulips.

It's nice to try and keep your decor light, airy, simple and uncluttered but I fail miserably at that normally putting everything out!  As in the photo of my kitchen window sill, why put one butter pat out when you can put them all out.

I think the charm of rustic spring decor lies in a blend of warmth of homely elements, together with the fresh look of the new season.

Until next time, dear homespun friends...
